A RESOLUTION REQUESTING VOLUNTARY WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES.
WHEREAS, the West Central Illinois area, to include the
City of Canton, has experienced a drought in excess of a 50
year drought; and,
WHEREAS, the Canton City Council has continuously
monitored the capacity of Canton Lake to supply water to Canton
citizens; and,
WHEREAS, there is presently impounded in Canton Lake, if
no further runoff is received, a supply of water sufficient for
at least another 14 to 15 months; and,
WHEREAS, although it is highly unlikely that there will
ever be any failure of City water supply by drought, it is the
duty of the Canton City Council to plan and prepare for a
dependable water supply.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds the
foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That the Canton City Council hereby requests all
users of Canton water to institute voluntary
water conservation measures in anticipation of
the possibility of a drought continued into 1989.
3. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and
instructed to mail, with proof of service,
certified copies of this Resolution to all
municipal users of City water lying outside the
City limits.
4. That this Resolution shall be in full force and
effect immediately upon its passage by the City
Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County,
Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this lst day of
November , 1988, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldermen Chapman, May, Meade, Sarff, Steck, Zilly,
Kovachevich.
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: Alderman Bohler.
