A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF TAE WAR ON Dff2UGS
W'HERFAS, the presence of drugs and narcotics in our society
has resulted in innumerable problems of human, community, social
and economic dimension; and,
WHEREAS, the consequences of drug-related problems are
witnessed in the loss of human lives, in the loss of economic
productivity, and in the diversion of public resources to address
these problems on all fronts to the detriment of our people; and,
WAS, the demand for illegal drugs is a pervasive problem
that affects all segments of our society, including professional
and affluent people; and,
WHEREAS, illegal drugs plague urban, suburban and rural
communities of all sizes and regions; and,
WHStEAS, illegal drugs constitute a problem in our community
and leads to a host of problems such as homicides, robberies,
burglaries, domestic violence, and other crimes; and,
WHEREAS, a national war on drugs has been declared to combat
the importation, trafficking, sale and abuse of drugs; and,
WHEREAS, our nation's cities, villages and towns are on the
frontlines of our war on drugs; and,
WfiE'RF~S, hundreds of America's dedicated public servants
have died and thousands of others risk their lives daily to fight
our communities' individual battles against illegal drugs and the
criminal activities stemming from illegal drugs;
~ THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the City of Canton declares
December 3 to 9 as "Cities Fight Back Against Drugs Week"; and,
~ IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the City of
Canton will go on record urging community groups, business and
civic organizations to support and participate in special
activities during the week to draw community attention to this
issue.
BE IT F~JRTfiER RESOLVED that the City of Canton shall
actively participate in the Illinois Law Enforcement Intelligence
Network (ILEIN); in the N1id-States Organized Crime Information
Center (MOCK); in the DARE program; in the Multi-County Narcotics
Enforcement Group (MEG); and, in the local efforts in the war on
drugs .
~ IT F«R'I~~Ett RESOLVED that the City of Canton supports
Education for our citizens, Enforcement of the drug laws, and
Treatment for our citizens who have fallen prey to drug abuse.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this 21st
day of
November, 1989, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES:. Aldermen Kovachevich, Zilly, Steck, Sarff, Meade,
May, Chapman,
NAYS: None.
ABSENT: Alderman Bohler.
