A RESOLUTION APPROVING A LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN THE CITY OF CANTON AND
CANTON FIRE FIGHTERS,LOCAL 1897 I.A.F.F.,A.F.F.I.,AFL/CIO
WHEREAS,the City of Canton entered into Collective Bargaining Agreement with Canton
Fire Fighters, Local 1896 I.A.F.F., A.F.F.I., AFL/CIO, entitled "Contract Between The City of
Canton, Illinois And Canton Fire Fighters, Local 1896 I.A.F.F., A.F.F.I., AFL/CIO" (effective
May 1,2017 Through April 30, 2021);
WHEREAS,the City of Canton has been in negotiations with the Canton Fire Fighters,Local
1896 I.A.F.F., A.F.F.I., AFL/CIO relative to a modification of the Schedule of Ascertained Merit,
which shall now include additional certification levels as allowed by the Illinois Administrative Code;
and
WHEREAS,the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has reviewed the terms of the
proposed Letter of Understanding,a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein,as
Exhibit A;and
WHEREAS,the City Council of the City of Canton,Illinois has determined that it is necessary
and in the best interests of the City to approve said Letter of Understanding.
NOW THEREFORE,be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Canton,Fulton County,
Illinois,as follows:
I, That the Letter of Understanding between the City of Canton and,the Canton Fire
Fighters,Local 1896 I.A.F.F.,A.F.F.I.,AFL/CIO,a copy of which is attached hereto
and incorporated herein as"Exhibit A", is hereby approved.
2.. That the Mayor, or his designee, is hereby authorized and directed to execute and
deliver said letter of understanding on behalf of the City of Canton.
1 That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by '
the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and approval by the
Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, -Fulton County, Illinois, at a regular
meeting this 7`h day of January,2020, upon a roll call vote as follows:

LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN THE CITY OF CANTON AND
CANTON FIRE FIGHTERS.LOCAL 1$97.I.A.F.F.;A F.F I.,AFL[CIO
The City of Canton(the"City")and the Canton Fire Fighters,Local 1897 I:A.F.F.,A.F.F.I.
AFL/CIO (the "Union") have discussed the Union's desire, due to recent amendments to the
Illinois Administrative Code, to amend Appendix C (Schedule of Ascertained Merit) of the
Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City and the Union and to allow for the new
certification levels permitted by the Illinois Administrative Code. The following was agreed to:
1. That the amended"Appendix C"attached to this Letter of Understanding hereby replaces
and supersedes "Appendix C" of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, entitled
"Contract Between The City of Canton, Illinois And Canton Fire Fighters, Local 1896
I.A.F.F.,A.F.F.I.,AFL/CIO" (effective May 1,2017 Through April 30,2021).
2. That the"Appendix C"attached to this letter shall become effective upon the last signature
of the.parties below
