A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE JOHN KEETS MARCH FOR AIDS RESEARCH
AND DESIGNATION OF THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12 - 18 AS AIDS AWARENESS
WEER.
WHEREAS, 19 year old Canton resident John Keets contracted
the AIDS virus while receiving a blood transfusion in the
treatment of a form of hemophilia; and,
WHEREAS, since that time he has courageously battled the
disease and is serving as inspiration to others with the AIDS
virus; and,
WHEREAS, John Keets and other concerned citizens have
organized the Third Annual John Keets MARCH FOR AIDS RESEARCH
to be held on Saturday, September 18, 1993, in the City of Canton;
and,
WHEREAS, proceeds from such march will go to fund AIDS
research; and,
WHEREAS, such march is in the best interest of the citizens
of the City of Canton and of all persons.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF CANTON, Fulton
County, Illinois as follows:
1. That the Canton City Council hereby finds the foregoing
recitals to be fact.
2. That the Canton City Council commends John Keets for
his courageous battle with the AIDS virus and his inspirational
example.
3. That John Keets has received national recognition for
his battle to stop the spread of AIDS by being recognized on
national television for his outstanding work and by receiving
the first place award in the 1992 Noxzema Extraordinary Teen
Award Program.
4. That the Canton City Council encourages all persons
to participate in the Third Annual John Keets MARCH FOR AIDS
RESEARCH or, to donate to such cause.
5. That the Canton City Council designates the week of
September 12 - 18, 1993, as "AIDS Awareness Week" for the City
of Canton and area.
6. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect
immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City
of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, and approval by the Mayor
thereof .
