HomeMy WebLinkAbout#5174 Opera House Lot Donation RESOLUTION NO 5174 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE OPERA HOUSE LOT DONATION WHEREAS, the City of Canton has the ability, pursuant to the Illinois Municipal Code to acquire real estate; and WHEREAS, in November of 2016 the building known as the "Opera House" located at 45 East Side Square was involved in an explosion that ultimately required the building to be demolished and removed; and WHEREAS, there is now an undeveloped vacant lot where the Opera House once stood and the owner of said property, Kert Huber, d/b/a, Kert Huber Development has offered to donate the lot to the City; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois believes it is in the best interests of the City and its Citizens to accept the donation and take ownership of the lot. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, as follows: 1. That the City approves acceptance of the donation to allow ownership of the lot to be conveyed to the City via a Warranty Deed prepared by City Attorney Lane. 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois and approval by the Mayor thereof.
