A RESOLIITION IN SUPPORT OF ZERO TOLERANCE LEGISLATION
WHEREAS, the Secretary of State has promoted a program
which would make it illegal for minors to drive with even a trace
of alcohol in their blood system; and,
WHEREAS, zero tolerance laws have proven within many ways,
most importantly by reducing the number of under age drinking and
driving accidents in states where such laws have been enacted;
and,
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1730 would accomplish that purpose and
has been passed by the Senate of Illinois; and,
WHEREAS, there appears to be proper legal safeguards in the
bill for exceptions, probable cause and other legal concerns.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, Fulton County, Illinois that they support the
passage of Senate Bill 1730 and the concept of a zero tolerance
law concerning consumption of alcohol by minor drivers.
1. That the Canton City Council will work with local and
State elected officials to further the aims and ends sought by
this Resolution; and,
2. That suitable copies of this Resolution be sent to the
Governor of the State of Illinois, to the President of the
Illinois Senate, to the Speaker of the Illinois House of
Representatives, and to the State Senators and Representatives who
represent the citizens of Canton, Illinois.
3. That this Resolution shall be in £ull force and effect
immediately upon its passage by the City Council of the City of
Canton, Illinois.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton
County, Illinois at a regular meeting this l7tn day of May,
1994, upon a roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Aldeznyen Coay. Molleck, Phillips, Sarff, Meade, May, Chapman.
NAYS: Noneā¢
