WHEREAS, there have heretofore been appropriated certain
funds out of the State Motor Fuel Tax funds allocated to the
City of Canton for the purpose of repairing and maintianing
the streets of said city; and
WHEREAS, it is proposed to use a portion of said funds
for the purpose of improving and repairing said streets of the
city, which were improved by a binder course and surface course
of Kentucky Rock Asphalt during the fall of 1936, said streets
being as follows: The streets surrounding the public square;
Chestnut Street between the east line of Avenue A and the west
line of First Avenue; Elm Street between the east line of Avenue
A and the west line of First Avenue, end North Main Street from
Chestnut Street to the south line of Locust Street; and
WHEREAS, said proposed improvement, which consists of
applying a seal coat composed of asphalt and fine crushed stone
over the area of said streets, has been approved by the Depart-
ment of Public gorks and Buildings of the State of Illinois,
Division of Highways, and a certificate of necessity for the
use of the required road material has been issued by the Public
Roads Administration, Federal works Agency; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Canton
that sealed proposals for the making of said improvement in ac-
cordance with specifications prescribed by said Division of
Highways will be received at the office of the city oleirk until
10:00 o'clock A. M. on Friday, May 21, 1943, at which time the
same shall be publically opened and read; and be it further
RESOLVED that said proposal shall be submitted on forms
furnished by the City of Canton, which may be obtained at the
office of the city clerk, and shall be passed upon and accepted
or rejected, and the making of said improvement shall be super-
vised by the mayor, the city engineer and the superintendant
of streets; and be it further
RESOLVED that notice of said letting shall be published in
the issue of the Canton Daily Ledger on Friday, May 7, 1943.
Passed by the City Council and approved by the mayor this
day of May, A. D. 1943.
