ORDINANCE NO. 1638
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 6, CHAPTER 1, SECTION 1 OF THE
CANTON MUNICIPAL-COKE RELATING TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, a cooperative grant program for a police officer to be assigned for
primary duty with Canton Union School District 66 has been established;. and,
WHEREAS, in order to provide personnel to accomplish the goals of this
program. it appears necessary to increase the number of patrolmen authorized- .for the
Canton Police Department; and,
WHEREAS,-. Legal and. ordinance .Committee .has determined that it its necessary
and in the best interest of the City of Canton to amend Title 6, Chapter 1, Section 1 of the
Canton Municipal Code; and,
WHEREAS, the CantonGity Council has madea similar determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, OF
THE- CITY OF CANTON}Fulton County, Illinois. as follows:
1. That the City Council hereby finds the foregoing recitals to be fact.
2. That Title 6, Chapter 1, Section l shall be amended to delete.. references to the
number of patrolmen as fourteen (14) and to substitute therefor the number as fifteen (15)
sn that as amended it reads. as follows:
"6-1- L: DEPARTMENT CREATEDr MEMBERS.: There
is hereby established an executive department of the City
government which shall be known as the Police Department,
and which shall consist of one Police Chief, three (3) police
lieutenants,. four (4~ police sergeants,_fifteen(L5~ patrolmen,
one noncommissioned traffic-control officer, up to seven (7)
telecommunicatorsr one. noncommissioned cede
enforcement officer, one executive secretary, and one
department secretary. When any member of the-. Police
Department, who occupies one of the foregoing positions,
becomes inactive such .that it appears that afull--time
appointment will be necessary so as to fill an ongoing
vacancy and/or an anticipated requirement, then. tbs. Police-
~,
and Fire Commission may, at its discretion appoint an
officer in a full-times capacity to fill such a vacancy. Part-
time noncommissioned personnel may be used on an "as
needed" basis to work as radio, operators, but only to the
extent that full-time commissioned officers are inadequate
to meet such needs."
3__ That this Qrdinance shall be in full force and- effect immediately upon its
passage by the City Council of the City of Canton and approved by the Mayor thereof.
PASSED by the City Council of the City of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois at a
regular meeting this 18th day of October , 1999.
