TELEVISION • VHF CHANNEL 8
WITS, the City Council of Canton, Illinois, on the
a/ day of , 1956, passed a resolution requesting
the Federal Communisations Commission to permit VHF Channel
8 to go into operation in Peoria, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, said City Council, upon reconsideration of this
matter, has decided to remain neutral in the VHF versus UHF
television controversy and has decided not to take sides on
the question of whether 'VHF Channel 8 should or should not
be permitted to- go into operation in Peoria;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED that, the City Council of
Canton, Illinois, on behalf of the citizens of Canton:
(a) Is neither for nor _against the intermixing of VHF
and UHF television in Peoria,
(b) Is completely neutral in the VHF versus UHF tele•
vision controversy.
This resolution supersedes this Council's earlier reso-
lution on this subject, said resolution having been dated
the , / day of jitlr , 1956.
BE IT ruuThEit RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
be sent to Honorable George C. McConnaughey, Chairman, Federal
Communications Commission, Washington, D.C. and to each member
of the Federal Communications Commission, Washington, D.C.,
who are: Mr. Rossi H. Hyde, Mr. Robert B. 'Lee, Mr. Robert T.
Bartley, Mr. John C. Doerfer, and Mr. Richard A. Mack; to
Senator Everett M. Dirksen, Washington, D.C., Congressman
Harold H. Veldt, Washington, D.C., and Senator Warren G.
Magnusson, Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, Wash-
ington, D.C. and Senator Paul H. Douglas, Washington, D.C.
