ORDINANCE NO. 15 41
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 9, CHAPTER 2, SECTION 5 (A) & (B) OF
THE CANTON MUNICII'AL CODE PROVIDING FOR FLASHING SIGNALS
AT CERTAIN LOCATIONS IN THE CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Streets and Garbage Committee of the City of Canton, Illinois has
determined that it is necessary to place flashing signals at certain locations in the City of
Canton, Illinois; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois has made a similar
determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CANTON, ILLINOIS, AS FOLLOWS:
1. Flashing signals as provided for in Title 9, Chapter 2, Section 5 (a) and (b) of
the Canton Municipal Code shall be placed at the following locations:
On the west side of First Avenue, north of the fire truck bays of the Public Safety
Building facing south bound traffic and on the east side of First Avenue, South of the fire
truck bays facing northbound traffic; and,
On the Southeast corner and Northwest corner of North Eleventh Avenue at the
intersection of East Myrtle Street and North Eleventh Avenue.
2. Flashing Red (stop signal). When a red lens is illuminated by rapid intermittent
flashes, drivers of vehicles shall stop before entering the nearest crosswalk at an
intersection or at a limit line when marked, or if none, then before entering the intersection
and the right to proceed shall be subject to the rules applicable after making a stop at a
stop sign.

3. Flashing Yellow (caution signal). When a yellow lens is illuminated with rapid
intermittent flashes, drivers of vehicles may proceed through the intersection or past such
signal only with caution.
4. That the appropriate officials of the City shall post appropriate signs informing
people of this Ordinance.
5. Any person who violates this Ordinance shall, upon conviction, be subject to a
fine in accordance with statutory law.
6. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect ten days after its passage by
the City Council of the City of Canton, Illinois, approval by the Mayor thereof, and
publication according to law.
