HomeMy WebLinkAbout#4046 - Amending Title 9 (Traffic Regulations), Chapter 12 (Golf Carts and Utility Terrain Vehicles) Section 2 (Vehicle Requirements) Providing for the Vehicle Requirements ORDINANCE NO. 4046 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 9 (TRAFFIC REGULATIONS), CHAPTER 12 (GOLF CARTS AND UTILITY TERRAIN VEHICLES), SECTION 2 (VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS) PROVIDING FOR THE VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE USE AND REGULATION OF GOLF CARTS AND UTILITY TERRAIN VEHICLES WITHIN THE CITY OF CANTON,FULTON COUNTY,ILLINOIS. WHEREAS, on May 3, 2016, the City of Canton passed Ordinance 4029 which legalized and regulated the use of golf carts and utility terrain vehicles within the City limits of the City of Canton, Illinois. WHEREAS, the City of Canton is desirous amend the Canton Municipal Code to specify and clarify some of the vehicle requirements for said vehicles; and WHEREAS, in furtherance of its statutory powers to amend the Municipal Code for the City of Canton, the City Council and the Mayor, have determined that it is the best interest of the City to amend the Code to specify that golf carts and utility terrain vehicles are required to have seat belts and horns as safety equipment. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the Mayor and the City Council for the city of Canton, Illinois, as follows: The City of Canton Municipal Code, Title 9 (Traffic Regulations) Chapter 12 (Golf Carts and Utility Terrain Vehicles) Section 2 (Vehicle Requirements) is hereby amended to read as follows: 9-12-2: VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS: All vehicles allowed to operate on city streets pursuant to this chapter, shall be equipped with all of the safety systems and equipment as required by the Illinois vehicle code' including: seatbelts for every passenger, horn, brakes, a steering apparatus, tires, a rearview mirror, red reflectorized warning devices in the front and rear, a slow moving emblem on the rear of the vehicle as required in section 12-709 of the Illinois vehicle code, 625 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/12-709, a headlight that emits a white light visible from a distance of five hundred feet (500') to the front, a taillamp that emits a red light visible from at least one hundred feet (100') from the rear, brake lights, turn signals, a windshield, and any and all other safety equipment required to be installed and operational on such vehicles as set forth in said statute.
