HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/20/2015 Liquor Commission Meeting City of Canton Liquor Control Commission Meeting November 20 2015 3:00 p.m. City Hall Director's Room 2 North Main Street Canton IL 61520 ROLL CALL: Mayor Jeffrey Fritz, City Clerk Diana Pavley-Rock, Commissioner Mike Freeman, Commissioner Doug Mancock, Owners of the Rancho Nuevo Mexican Restaurant (Ricardo Onate and Elvira Onate) APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE LIQUOR CONTROL COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 13, 2015 AND OCTOBER 29, 201S. Motion and second were made by Commissioner Freeman/Commissioner Manock to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried by voice vote and was unanimous. DISCUSS. CONSIDER AND VOTE ON A CLASS B SUPPER CLUB LICENSE FOR RANCHO NUEVO MEXICAN RESTAURANT The location of this restaurant will be at 811 North Main at the former Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant. The application was submitted for the Class B liquor license. The application was amended to properly reflect a Class B license. A copy of the liquor liability insurance was submitted; however a surety bond or a money order will need to be provided in the amount of $500.00 prior to the license being issued. The owners explained that they would like to open the restaurant as soon as they receive approval of their liquor license; however they are still in the process of cleaning and remodeling their building. Motion and second were made by Mayor Fritz/Commissioner Freeman to accept the application from Rancho Nuevo Mexican Restaurant Inc for a Class B supper Club license. Roll Call: Ayes: Mayor Fritz, Commissioner Freeman, Commissioner Manock Nays: None Absent: None Mayor Fritz explained that the commission has accepted the Class B liquor license and will make the recommendation to the Council to approve the request. This request will be placed on the next Council agenda for the meeting to be held on December 1, 2015. If the Council approves the license and the surety bond is received, the Clerk will issue the liquor license. Ricardo explained that he currently owns the Camino Real Mexican Restaurant and another Mexican Restaurant in Collinsville. The owners currently live in Decatur. City Clerk Diana Pavley Rock asked if background checks would be required for the owner and manager listed on the application. The owner had a background check previously conducted when they opened the Camino Real in Canton. Mayor Fritz explained that since the owners had a background check completed previously they would not be required to have another background check conducted for the new restaurant. The manager (Aldofo Hernandez) would be required to have a background check completed since he did not previously have one completed by the City. The background check would need to be initiated prior to the Council meeting. Mayor Fritz further explained that if the background check is not finalized before the restaurant is open, the license will still be issued. In the event that anything showed up from the background check a different manager would need to be selected for this location.
