Canton City Council held a special meeting on October 14, 1969 in the City
Council Chamber. '4aG.or Jennings called the meeting to order at 7:00 P. M.
Present for roll call: Aldermen Howard, Rune, Svob, Farr, Sepich, Hurst,
Long, Edwards, Kroell, Williams, Yrbic, Spencer, George, and Preece. Ab-
sent: `done. Each Alderman had received a telephone call and letter notifying
him of this meeting and acknowledgement of same was made.
Letter addressed to City Clerk from Mayor Jennings authorizing the calling of

1. Off Street Parking and purchase of land touching- thereon.

held by the Canton Yndustries expires on Oct. 15, 1969; That organizat'_on has
paid ''; 300.00 to hold the option and they have pledges of approximately $1 J,000.00
with $8,000.00 cash in the bank and balance to be deposited within next two weeks.
?Merchants have put up this money on non-interest bearinc- certificates, payable
{�. when the Cit-,, of Clanton can repay this amount (ten years had been designated for
ifJ completion of the project) . Chain stores do not have the authority to pledge to
the fund without authorization of the home office. Discussion followed. It was
agreed that the City and Canton industries sho-j-l_d cooperate to pick up the option.
VEarlier the City had agreed to repay the merchants certificates at the rate of
$52000.00 per year. T^iotion by Alderman Hurst that the 'iayor and City Attorney
be authorized to spend off-street narking fund for purchase of building in con-
junction with A.C.I. funds. Alderman Edwards seconded the moti on. City Attorney

mended a recess to talk to members of the A.C.I. Alderman George moves, Alder-
man Kroell seconds motion that a three-minute recess be granted. rCarried by
voice vote. Recess declared at 738 P. M.
burin;-; the recess period, the Estimate do. 5 for George E. Hoffman e: Sons street
improvement (E. Ash, 12th and 11th Ave.) in the amount of $54,668.76 was brought
to the Council's attention. Discussion regarding the quality of the work. Letter
from Crawford, i,lurphy "c Tilly Inc. read stating that the final inspection of
this street project will be made October 21, 10:00 A. M. !lotion by Alderman
Hurst, seconded by Alderman George that pa-rraent not be made until same has been
approved by the Board of Local Improvements after the inspection. Roll call vote:
AYE: Aldermen Preece, George, Spencer, Yerbic, Williaans, Kroell, Edwards, Farr,
Svob, Rune, and Howard. NAY: Aldermen Long and Sepich. (12 AYES and 2 NAYS).
Motion carried.
Estimate No. 7, Alton ?z Co. and the Ska,-,,s Construction Co. (W. Vine St.) in the
amount of $7,48P.41 presented. Motion by Alderman Hurst, seconded by Alderman
Williams to hold the estimate over until next meetin-. Roll call vote. AYE:
Aldermen Howard, Rune, Svob, Farr, Sepich, Hurst, Long, Edwards, Kroell, Williams,
Yerbic, Spencer, George, and Preece. !dAY: '?one.
Council reconvened at 7150 P. M.
Continuation of off-street parking ;natter: Alderman Edwards withdrew his
second of previous motion and Alderman Hurst withdrew his motion. Alderman
Hurst then moves that the iMa;or and City Clerk enter into a contract for a
down payment on the property up to a maximum of $17,000.00. This motion was
seconded by Alderman Edwards. ',lotion by Alderman Spencer to suspend rules per-
taining to same and Alderman ;Farr seconds the motion. Roll call vote to suspend
the rules AYE: Aldermen Preece, George, Spencer, Yerbic, Williams, Kroell,
Edwards, Long, Hurst, Sepich, Tarr, Svob, Rune, and Howard. Nk7- ivone. Carried.

Motion by Alderman Spencer, seconded by Alderman Yerbic to adjourn. Voice vote
