May 21, 1968
Canton City Council held a regular meeting on May 21, 1968 in the City Council
Chamber. Mayor. Woods called the meeting to order at 5:30 P. M. Present for
roll call: Aldermen TRusnak, Howard, Jacobs, Sepich, Skinner, Long, Ellis, Kroell,
spencer, Yerbic, Danner, and George. 1bsent: Alderman Svob. Alderman Farr
arriving at 5:35 P. M.
Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Invocation by Alderman Danner.
Alderman Kroell moves, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion to dispense with reading of
the minutes of the previous meeting, accept same and place on file. Voice vote.
Carried.
Petition requesting annexation to the City -- "ssembly of God Church. Alderman
Ellis moves, Alderman Danner seconds motion to accept same and that an Ordinance
be drafted for this annexation. Carried by voice vote. Petition No. 159.
Standing commmittee reports.
Water and Sewer Committee meeting at the water plant on May 14 was reported by
Alderman Long. Inspection of the new accelerator, problems that need to be
salved (one being a fenae.). Further study to be made.
Lake Canton Beach will on_ en on May 30 reported by Alderman Jacobs of the Lake
Development committee.
Civil Defense Committee to meet f ollowinn the Council meeting announced by Alder-
man Danner.
Alderman Farr arrived in the Council Chamber at 5:35 P. m.
Alderman Farr announced that one of the Police has been taking the police training
course and asked Chief of Police Lindzey to make a report. Mr. Lindzey stated
that Kenneth Kington had been taking the police training course offered at the
University of Illinois -- beginning on April 2J, 1968 and that Mr. Kington will
graduate on May 24, 1968.
Special committees.
Mayor Woods reported that temporary firemen had been selected for the vacation
period: Howard H. Din, Charles M. Greely, and Roy D. Walters.
Communications to the Council.
Invitation to attend the dedication ceremony for Woodland Palace in Kewanee on
May 30, 1968 read.
Division of Highways approval of Route 9 between Plain Street in Canton to Orchard
Mines for use by 65 feet overall dimension vehicles. To be filed.
Request from. Health Officer Nobergall for Council approval to take action regarding
the unsanitary condition of a college rooming hmzse, 720 Keeling Court. Alderman
Yerbid moves, Alderman Danner seconds motion that the City Attorney and Chief of
Police take whatever action is necessary to improve the unsanitary condition and
that a copy of 111r. Nebergail's letter be sent to the College Board. Carried by
voice vote.
Request from the Laborers International Union of North America to address the City
Council at one of their regular meetings regarding organization of city employees.
Alderman Howard moves, Alderman Kroell seconds motion to table this request. Dis-
cussion. Voice vote. AYE: (except for one dissenting vote: Alderman George).
Forget-me-Not day request by the Peoria Chapter �l, Disabled American Veterans for
July 27, 1968 read. Alderman Jacobs moves, Alderman Yerbic seconds motion. Carried
by voice vote.
Request for tag day, Veterans of Foreign Wajrs Auxiliary Junior Girls to hold a tag
day June 7 and 8, 1968. Alderman Yerbic moves, Alderman Long seconds motion to
grant this request. Carried by voice vote.
Seventh Day Adventist Church request to hold a tag day on June 21 or June 28, 1968.
Alderman Jacobs moves that the request be granted for June 21st, with a rain day
set for June 28, Alderman Sepich seconds this motion. Carried, voice vote.

for improvements to sewage treatment and sewer facilities, if needed, to meet
stream quality requirements of the Ill. State Sanitary Water R oard, $3,000.00. Alder-

Waterworks and Sewerage Improvements, Divisions 9A and 9B (storm relief sewers and
channel relocation. Alderman Jacobs moves, Alderman Farr seconds that the City
Clerk be authorized to advertise for bids to be -received by June 18th, 1968, 5:00
P. M. and opened at the Council meeting on that date. Roll call vote. AST: Alder-

Ordinance be tabled. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Rusnak, Jacobs, Skinner, Long,
Ellis, Kroell, Spencer, and Yerbic. TAY: Alden-.ien Howard, Farr, Sepich, Danner,

Life guards appointed for the JGyCee Leach for the summer of 1968: Bill Waldorf,
Curt Putman, Harty Brown, Dan Beadles with Larry Farr as an alternate. Alderman
Jacobs moves, Alderman Kroell- seconds motion that the annointments be confirmed.
Carried by voice vote.
Resolution, repair and construction of existing sewage pumping station at Anderson
Pl. and S. Ninth Ave. Alderman Long moves to a.gont this Resolution, Alderman Sepich
seconds motion. Roll_ call vote. AYE: Aldermen George, Danner, Yerbic, Spencer, Kroell.,
Ellis, TIong, Skinner, Sepich, Jacobs, Farr, Howard, and Rusnak. NAY : None. No. 486.
Motion by Alderman Long, seconded by Alderman Sepich that the City Clerk open bids on
Water-sewer extensions. Carried. One bid received, Wiegand & Storrer, E.Peoria in the
Amount of $38,615.00.Alderman Ellis moves,Alderman Jacobs seconds that same be referred
to Water-Sewer and Finance Com. for stud and retort to next meeting. Voice vote.Carried.
Ken Russell will be in. Canton May 28th to answer any questions re. fishing, Lake Canton.
Alderman Yerbic moves,Alderman Jacobs seconds motion to adjourn. Carried. Canton City
Council adjourns at 6:23 P.M.
