Jan. 11, 1966
Canton City Council held a regular meeting on Jan. 11, 1966 in the City Council
Chamber. Present for roll call: Aldermen Howard, Rusnak, Duncan, Farr, Whitehead,
Jacobs, Long, Skinner, Kroell, Ellis, Yerbic, Spencer, George, and Danner.
Absent:None:
Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by-Alderman Danner.
Minutes of previous meeting -- Alderman Danner moves and Alderman Long seconds
motion that the minutes be accepted as presented. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous.
Petition containing thirty-three signatures complaining of trucking operations
on the property owned by Mrs. Robert Flowers (Lots 25, 263 27, 283 303 315 32 in
Martin's Addition)causing too much -disturbance -in the area. Alderman Jacobs moves
and Alderman Rusnak seconds motion that this Petition be referred to the Planning
and Zoning Commission -for investigation of possible violation of zoning law and to
report at the next Council meeting and further, that the 'Zoning Enforcing Officer
be instructed to severely enforce the zoning law and to report any violations of
same. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. (Petition No. 112).
Mayor Woods called for reports of standing committees.
Traffic Committee * -- Alderman Ellis reported -that the traffic lights on Locust
Street and First Avenue have been repaired and that it would be a good idea to re-
pair the lights on Main and Locust Streets at this time to meet the state regula-
tions. Parking meter standards that were reported J;o :ahe Street Superintendent
for repair have been completed, however, there -are still others to repair.
Request by Aldermari Farr for a meeting of the Traffic Committee, Police and Legal
Committee, and the Chief of Police to meet with the Mayor pertaining to the regu-
lations of traffic on the square.
Holiday pay. Alderman Howard stated the Finance Committee held a meeting regarding
the inequities in holiday pay. He moves that the Ordinance Committee instruct the
City Attorney to draft an Ordinance that city employees whose regular work days
occur on holidays should receive compensation of one-half time additional pay but
not to exceed four hours. Alderman Spencer seconds this motion. Voice vote. AYE:
Unanimous.
Alderman Howard stated that now was the time to be thinking of any employeee in
need of increase in salary.
Inquiry by Alderman George in the Ordinance Committee and City Attorney had pre-
pared an Ordinance pertaining to trailers -- same was recommended at the second
meeting in December, 1965.
Mayor Woods called for reports of special committees.
Redistricting of wards committee chairman, Alderman Danner, reported that he had
met with the Mayor and the City Attorney and will have a committee meeting 4:00 P.M.
on Thursday, January 13, 1966.
Mayor Woods called for communications to the Council.
Letter from Pastor Claire L. Harris suggesting the traffic lights be removed from
First Ave. and Locust St. and that stop signs be ereeted on First Ave. Letter to
be placed on file.
Mayor Woods called for unfinished business.
Mayor Woods called for new business.
Pastor Clair L. Harris was named for appointment to replace Rev. Hancock on the
Appeals Board. Alderman Howard moves and Alderman Duncan seconds motion that the
Mayor►s appointment be confirmed. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous.
Alderman Duncan moves, Alderman Farr seconds motion to adjourn. Voice vote. AYE:
Unanimous. Canton City Council adjourns at 7t21 P. M.
