Letter from the Board of Fire and" Police Commissioners certifying the permanent
appointment of Mr. James R. Grove as Police Patrolman, effective Oct. 1, 1965 and
to waive the usual probationary period in recognition of his past experience on
patrolman assignments. ' Letter to be filed.
Letter from the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners confirming the permanent
appointment of Mr. Francis E. Crosier to the Police Department, effective retroactive
to July 2, 1965. Letter to be filed.
Thank you note from Mater Earl Coleman for courtesy extended during the Friendship
Festival days.
Mayor Woods called for unfinished business.
School Patrol Guards Ordinance read for second time. Alderman Duncan moves and Alder-
man Ellis seconds motion to place this Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote.
AYE: Unanimous. Alderman Long moves that the Ordinance be made retroactive to the
first of the school year, Alderman Farr seconds this motion. City Attorney McMunn
stated that it would take an Ordinance to change this Ordinance now. Alderman Farr
C11 withdrew his second of motion and Alderman Long withdrew his motion. Alderman Howard
moves that the Ordinance be reread, Alderman Long seconds motion. Roll call vote.
AYE: Aldermen Howard, Rusnak, Farr, Whitehead, Jacobs, Long, Skinner, Kroell, Yerbic,
C.; Spencer, and George. NAY: Aldermen Duncan, Ellis, and Danner. (11 AYES and 3 NAYS) .
Motion carried. Ordinance reread. Alderman Jacobs moves to adopt this Ordinance,
X Alderman Howard seconds the motion. Alderman Long moves and Alderman Farr -seconds
motion to amend the Ordinance: Section 2, "strike out first Friday and insert, 27th
day of August, 1965«, Roll call vote on the amenement; AYE: Unanimous. Roll call
vote on the motion, as amended. AYE: Unanimous. This being Ordinance No. 153.
Second reading of the Stop and Yield Right-of-Way Sign Ordinance, next on the agenda.
Alderman Ellis moves and Alderman Duncan seconds motion that the Ordinance be read
by title only. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Alderman Ellis moves and Alderman
Duncan seconds motion to place this Ordinance on its passage in its present form.
Alderman George stated that changing of the signs was money badly spent because it
would tgke the Street Department two or three weeks to complete this work. Alder-
man Spencer stated he was not in favor of the Ordinance because of the danger to
school children. Roll call vote on the motion. AYE: Aldermen Howard, Duncan,
Whitehead, Skinner, Kroell, Ellis, and Danner. NAY: Aldermen Rusnak, Farr, Jacobs,
Long, Yerbic, Spencer, and George. (7 AYES and 7 -NAYS). Mayor Woods voting "NAY",
and requested that the Ordinance be returned to the Traffic Committee to work out a
favorable Ordinance for passage.
Discussion on the purchase of street sign striping equipment.
Alderman Ellis moves that the Council approve the Mobile Home Gardens plat as
recommended in a letter from the Planning and Zoning; Commission accompanying the
plat. Alderman Dancan seconds this motion. Alderman Howard stated that the present
Ordinance should be changed if this plat is accepted because there would soon be a
request for annexation to the City of Canton. Discussion. Roll call vote on the
motion. AYE: Aldermen Danner, George, Spencer, Yerbic, Ellis, Kroell, Skinner,
Long, Jacobs, Whitehead, Farr, Duncan, and Rusnak. XAY: Alderman Howard. Motion
carried.
Bond with the Transamerica insurance Co., amount of $21000.00, properly approved
by the Finance Committee, for Forest Kaufman, Superintendent of Greenwood Cemetery.
Alderman Long moves and Alderman Jacobs seconds motion to accept same� and place on
file. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous.
Alderman Spencer moves that the Mike Kuzniar claim for damage be referred to the
Claims Committee for "study -- then withdrew his motion.
Alderman Long moves and Alderman Farr seconds motion to adjourn. Voice vote. AYE:
Unanimous. Canton City Council adjourns at 8:13 P. M.
