Canton City Council held a regular meeting on March 16, 1965 in the City Council
Chamber. Mayor'Cook called the meeting-to order at 7:03- P. M. 'Present for Roll Calla
Alderliieii-Sebree, Howard, Wright., Duncan, Hurst, Whitehead, Long, Ellis, Rroell, Horton,
Jennings, Bender and George. Absents Alderman Skinner.
Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Howard.
Alderman Bender moves and Alderman Horton'seconds a motion'that the minutes of the
previous meeting be accepted as presented. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous.
Mayor Cook called for reports of standing committees, then for special committees.
Alderman Wright reported on the project of advertising the- City of Canton. He stated
that he had worked with the Assoc. of Commerce and Industry-and suggested that a three
year plan for advertising "-- one large board sign••in the vicinity of Mapleton (where
new industry is being located and is just a fifteen-minute drive from Canton) and dur-
ing the three year period to draft brochures of the camiunity and smaller booklets to
be distributed to prospective new residents in the area. ' He suggested that the Mayor
appoint a City Council caciimittee of four to include the Mayor to work with a committee
of f6r*ACI Directors., including its Preiident' to direct the'production of the proposed

thanked-Mr. Gordon Linn, Chm. ACI Promote Canton Committee and Mr. F. Stewart Reed
for help in computing the proposal.
Mayor-Cook called for communications to the Council.
Letter from' Crawford, Murphy & Tilly recommending that the contract for Div. 8 (Pump-
ing Statiosa, Force Main Oxidation Pond) be awarded to Canton Contractors ($53,997.31),

Mr. Ritchie, from the 'CMT Eng. Firm stated that the pond was being built'in such a man-
her that it was improbable there would be any danger.- Alderman Bender moves and Alder-
man Jennings seconds motion that the contract be awarded to the Canton Contractors and
that the Mayor and City Clerk enter into same. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous.
Mayor Cook called for unfinished business and then for new business.
Alderman Bender recommended that the city jail needed some improvements. AIAIerman Long
to investigate this matter. '
First reading- of •an Ordinance pertaining to rezoning Lot No. 14, Frenchts Addition from
R-2 Class to a 13-1 Class (Local shopping District). Alderman Bender moves and Alderman
Duncan'seconds'a motion to suspend the rules. Roll'call vote. AYE: 'Aldermen Sebree,
Howard, Wright, Duncan, Long; Ellis, Kroell, Horton, Jennings, Bender, and George. NAY:
Aldermen Hurst-and Whitehead. (11 AYES and 2 NAYS). Motion carried. Alderman Bender moves
and AlUtmih'Duncan seconds-motion to place Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote.
AYE: Unanimous. This being Ordinance No. 130.
First reading of Ordinance pertaining to Yield Right-of-UV signs 'on Sixth Avenue at
Spruce,bocust and Chestftutp Streets: Alderman George moved, Alderman Hurst seconds a '
motion to suspend rules.'Roll call vote.'AYE: Aldermen Sebree, 'Howard, Wright, Duncan,
Hurst; Whitehead. 1roell, Hinton, Jennings-., 'Bender..' and George. NAYs Aldermen Long and
Ellis. (11 AYES and 2 NAYS). Motion carri6d. Alderman George movers and Alderman Bender
seconds motion t6 place Ordinance on its passage.` Roll call vote. AYE: Alderman George,
Bender; Jennings, 56rton Kr'oell, Long, Whitehead, Hurst, Duncan, Wright, Howard, and
Sebree. NAY: Alderman Ellis.(12 AYES, 1 NAY). Carried. This being Ordinance No. 131.

Place at Ave. D. Alderman Bender moves, Alderman Hurst seconds motion to suspend the `
