Canton City Council held a regular meeting on Dec . 8, 1964 in the City
Council Chamber . In the absence of Mayor Cook, the Deputy City Clerk
called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M. and stated that a motion to designate
a Mayor pro tem for the meeting would be in order. A]abrman Bender moves
and Alderman George seconds a motion to select Alderman Ho -lard as Mayor
pro tem for this meeting . Voice vote . AYE : Unanimous .
Present for Roll call: Alderman Sebreee, Howard, Duncan, Hurst, Whitehead,
Skinner , Horton, Jennings , Bender, and George . Alderman Long arriving
at 7:15 P.M. Absent: Alderman Wright .
Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by City Attorney Senift .
Alderman Bender makes a motion to accept the minutes of the previous
meeting . Alderman Hurst states that there was a mistake in the minutes
of the previous meeting . Mayor pro tem Howard asks that Alderman Bender
withdraw his motion. Alderman Bender withdraws his motion. Mayor pro
tem Howard instructs the Deputy City Clerk to read the minutes of the
previous meeting . Alderman Hurst states there was a mistake on the
McElroy-Roland total. This total should be changed to read $32, 420.00.
City Attorney Senift states that the motion on the Supper Club Ordinance
be changed to read motion declared lost. Alderman Bender moves and
Alderman Hurst seconds a motion to accept the minutes of the previous
meeting as presented and place on file . Voice vote . AyE: Unanimous .
Mayor pro tem Howard called for reports of standing committees .
Alderman Jennings stated that the Traffic Committee and Chief Lindzey
met Monday night . The Traffic Committee recommends making a one-way street
from Elm to Maple Street on Second Avenue . Chief Lindzey stated this
will eliminate a hazardous intersection at Seczend Avenue and Elm Street.
Discussion. Alderman Jennings moves and Alderman Long seconds a motion
that an ordinance be drawn tc change South Second Avenue, from Elm Street
to Maple Street, from a two-way street to a one-way street . Voice Vote .
AYE : Unanimous .
Alderman Jennings suggest something should be done about parking on
Fourth Avenue . Mayor pro tem Howard asks that the Traffic Committee
bring a recommendation the Council about Fourth Avenue to the next
Council meeting.
Mayor pro tem Howard called for reports of special committees .
Mayor pro tem Howard called for communications to Council .
Mayor pro tem Howard called for unfinished business .
Mayor pro tem Howard stated Mayor Cook would be back at next Council
meeting.
Mayor pro tem Howard suggested that the Finance Committee and Garbage
Committee should have a meetint before next Council meeting.
Mayor pro tem Howard called for new business . Bonds for Russell Cardosi
and Gerald Emert in the amount of $1000.00 each with the Transamerica.
Insurance Company and approved by the Finance Committee were read.
Alderman Long moves and Alderman Hurst seconds a motion that bonds be
accepted . Voice vote . AYE: Unanimous .
Alderman. Jennings suggested mounting a snow plow on one the garbage
trucks . Discussion about mounting a snow plow on garbage truck. Mayor
pro tem Howard suggested a meeting of the Garbage Committee and the
Street and Alley Committee in regards to the snow plow on the garbage
truck, They are to report at next council meeting .
Alderman George stated he thought the Street Department did a wonderful
job on the snow removal and that the Street Department should be
congratulated .
City Attorney Senift was instructed to draw a resolution about election
judges by next Council. meeting . Aldermen were instructed to report
names of election judges by Friday, December 11, 1964.

Mayor pro tem Howard suggested a resolution of sympathy be sent to
Alderman Wright and his family. Alderman George moves and Alderman
Bender seconds a motion that a resolution of sympathy be sent to
Alderman Wright . Voice vote . AYE: Unanimous .
Announcement of a meeting about Interstate 74 to be held at the Circuit
Court in Peoria , Illinois , December 11, 1964 at 3 :00 P.M. Alderman
Long suggested that City Attorney Senift should represent the City of
Canton at the meeting and recommended that his expenses be paid.
Alderman Bender stated that . nothing should be placed on agenda after
4:00 P. M. Discussion.
Alderman Jennings moves and Alderman Horton seconds motion to adjourn.
Voice vote on adjournment, AYE: Unanimous . Canton City Council
