HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-11-1964 Council Meeting Minutes 266 Aug. 11_1 1961 Canton City Council held a regular meeting on Aug. 11, 1961 in the City Council Chamber. Mayor Cook called the meeting; to order at 7:03 P. M- Present for Roll Call: Aldermen' Sebree, Howard, Ilright, Duncan, Hurst, .°Thitehead, Long, Abbott, Gibbons, Horton, Jennings, Bender, and George. Absent: Alderman Skinner. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Howard. Alderman Timiard moves and Alderman Horton seconds. a motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting and place on file. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. A Petition protesting the proposed amendment to zoning ordinance for lots five and six, block five in Kellogg & Babcock Addition, signed by twenty- property owners read. Alderman Wright moves and Alderman Duncan seconds a motion to lay this peti- Lion over until the next Council meeting -- the, Planning vote. . nnndZ ring Commissio have planned a meeting to be held on Aug. 13, 1964. Voice This being Petition No. 89. Petition for repairs to W. Walnut St. from Ave. D- on west, signed by forty-seven property owners. Alderman Jennings recommended scarifying this street at this Alder- time. Mayor Cook asked that Alderman George see ,that same is taken care of. Alder- ran Wright moves and Alderman Hurst seconds a motion to place the Petition on file. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. This being Petition No. 90. Mayor Cook called for reports of standing committees. Alderman George reported that the Finance and Street and Alley Committees had met and agreed on oiling and chipping, not to exceed $11,000.00. He then moves that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to advertise for bids for oil and chips, approximate cost X10,000.00 and not to exceed $111000.00, bids to be opened on Aug. 18 -- in the meantime the City Engineer and Street Superintendent to in- vestigate and report which blocks should be eliminated at this time because of the sewer program. Alderman Jennings seconds the motion. Roll call vote. AYE:Unanimous. Mayor Cook called for communications to the Council. Letter from Crawford, Murphy & Tilly recommending the payment of the first estimate on Division Two on the Water anBenderroaesl and Alderman LongJsecondsethenmo;ioni Co. -- $26,213:32. Alderman moves allow this bill. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor Cook called for unfinished business. Ordinance pertaining to stop signs up for second reading. Alderman Gibbons moves and Alderman Abbott- seconds the motion to tLble the ordinance. Roll call veto. AYE: Aldermen George, Bender, Jennings, Dorton, Gibbons, -Abbott, Long, tiJhiteheadG Duncan, Wright, and Howard. NAY: Aldermen Hurst and Sebree. (11 AYES and 2 MAYS) . Aldermen Wright moves- and Alderman Bender seconds a motion that the Street and Alley Committee see that the stop signs are replaced at the corner of Second Ave. and Maple Street. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Alderman Hurst reported that no work had been done on Mulberry place the past week, nor had the drive-ways been corrected. Xayror Cook instructed Alderman George to see that same was corrected. Alderman Gibbons inquired about the resolution that was tg be drawn regarding the ettension of- water lines on East Linn Street. Alderman Bender stated that same would be taken care of soon. Mayor Cook called for new business. First reading of Tax Levy Ordinance. Same to lay over until the next meeting. Alderman Hurst reported that there were five dead trees on Avenue D, that were in a dangerous condition and should be removed immediately. Alderman Bender moves to adjourn.
