Mayor Cook called the meeting to order at 7:02 P. M. Present for Roll Calls Aldermen Sebree, Howard, Wright, Duncan, Hurst, Whitehead, Skinner,'Abbott, Morton, Jennings, and George. Absent: Aldermen Long, Gibbons, and Bender. Pledge of Allegiance was followed by Prayer by Alderman Howard. A Motion by Alderman Howard, seconded by Alderman Horton to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as presented. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor Cook called for reports of Standing Committees. Speaking for the Garbage Disposal Committee, Alderman Hurst moves and Alderman Abbott seconds & motion to accept the bid of the H. E. Miller Auto Body for the garbage trucks No. R-190 (same as in use at present time). Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. Communications to the Council. Letter from the Illinois Public Aid Commission regarding the placing of same of their recipients for work for the City. Alderman Jennings moves and Alderman George seconds a motion to invite the case workers to appear before the Council for further information. Voice vote. AYE: Unanimous. Mayor Cook called for Unfinished business. An estimate of cost of cleaning the sewer from Wallace Park to the sewerage plant (approx. 2500 ft.) and restoring the service .to 95% of the original capacity -- $2750.00. Alderman Howard moves and Alderman Jennings seconds a motion to authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to enter into a contract with the Peterson Pipe Line Co. Oak Lawn, Illinois for this service. Roll call vote. AYE: Unanimous. , Second reading: Street Improvement Ordinance -- Van Dyke Drive and Lawrence Dr. (63-D). • Alderman Hurst moves and Alderman George seconds a motion to accept this Ordinance as read and adopt same. Roll call vole. AYE: Unanimous. This is No. 83, New Business. Bonds in the amount of $1,000.00 each with the American Surety Co., proper4 approved by the Finance Committee for Floyd W. Newlan, City Dog Catcher and Gerald E. Goyen, Aux. Police Officer presented. Alderman Howard moves and Alderman Horton seconds a motion to accept same and place on file. Roll call vote.AYE:Unannimous. First reading of an Ordinance pertaining to removal of trees with Dutch Elm disease in the City of Canton. Alderman Wright explained that he did not wish this ordinance to be placed on its passage at this meeting but for- each Alderman to give some thought -to the proper construction of such an ordinance. Ordinance laid aver. Resolution for street improvement on Edmar Drive. A1.ddrman Skinner moves and Alder- man Jennings seconds a motion to adopt this Resolution. Alderman Wright stated that when this street was annexed into the City of Canton, the proper steps had not been taken to provide sewer and water and curbing and that same still has not been com- pleted. Roll call vote on the Resolution. AYE: Aldermen Sebree, Howard, Skinner, Abbott, and Jennings. NAY: Aldermen Wright, Duncan, Hurst, Whitehead, Horton, and George. (5 AYES and 6 NAYS). Motion lost. Alderman George inquired about the resealing of streets and showed dissatisfaction at the manner the work was distributed. Alderman Howard moves to adjourn, seconded by Alderman Sebree. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Horton, Duncan, Howard, and Sebree. NAY: Aldermen George, Jennings, Abbott, Skinner, Whitehead, Hurst, and Wright. (4 AYES and 7 NAYS). Motion lost. Alderman Howard then moves and Alderman Abbott seconds same to refer the street re- sealing project to the Street and Alley Committee for study and report to the next Council meeting. After discussion, Alderman Abbott withdrew his second and Alder- man Howard withdrew his motion. Alderman Howard moves to adjourn. Alderman Horton seconds the motion. Voice vote.
