It was reported that a junk yard at 912 E. Olive Street had been established.
City Attorney Senift to investigate same.
Alderman Long, reporting on the meeting with the State Fire Marshall, stated the
Fire Marshall recammended that the City and interested parties select a contractor
to inspect the fire-gutted building and make an unbiased report. If the contractor
finds the building dangerous, the Fire Marshall will issue orders to tear down this
building.
Inquiry about the barber-shop on West Spruce St. by Alderman Wright, City Atty.
Senift said there would be no difficulty.
Mr. OW Williams, "&king for the Americ4n. Legion Post 160 requested permission
to use City streets, Main to Elm, Elm to Third, Chestnut to Ave. D, South on Ave.
D to Elm and East on Elm to Main Street. He also requested use of the south side
CA of the square for drill teams and for Sat. nits, the area on Msin St. north of
C: Walnut St. to north of the V. F. W. for a dance. He requested the City Council to
Cam: participate in this parade. Alderman Herbener moves and Alderman Wright seconds
that this request be gtanted and asked that the Chief of Police work with the
Legion. Oral vote. AYE: Unanimous.
Letter from Lawrence Horton, Jr. requesting the privilege of establishing a con-
cession at Lake Canton, carrying proper insurance to free the City from any liability
in connection with the Lake Concessions and boat rentals, and to pay the City $50.00
per month. After much discussion regarding the Powell lease, Alderman Wright moves
and Alderman Berry seconds that the City not extend. a five-year lease to Edward
Powell. More discussion. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Berry, Abbott, Gibbons,
Skinner, Long, Hurst, Herbener, Wright, Staley, Sebree, and Howard. NAY: Alderman
George. PASSING: Alderman Horton. (11 AYES, 1 NAY, and 1 PASS) . Motion carried.
Alderman Berry moves that Lawrence Horton, Jr. be given a five-year lease and also
that he will not be held responsible for policing the Lake -- Police and Legal
Committee to use the rent money for policing the lake. Motion withdrawn. Alder-
man Staley moves and Alderman George seconds that this matter bezeferred to the
Water and Sewer and Police and Legal Committees to work out. Oral vote. AYE:
Unanimous.
First reading of an Ordinance pertaining to establishing the two mills maxium rate
limit for the Fire Protection Fund. Alderman Skinner moves to suspend the rules,
seconded by Alderman Staley. Roll call vote. AYE: Aldermen Howard, Sebree,
Staley, Wright, Herbener, Hurst, Long, Skinner, Gibbons, Abbott, Berry, Horton,
and George. NAY: None. Motion carried. Alderman Herbener, seconded by Alder-
man- Skinner ,moves to place the Ordinance on its Passage. Roll call vote. AYE
Aldermen George, Horton, Berry, Abbott, Gibbons, Skinner, Long, Hurst, Herbener,
Wright, Staley, Sebree, and Howard. NAY: None. Motion carried. This being
Ordinance No. 36.
Alderman Long moves to adjourn. Motion seconded by Alderman Hurst. There still
being business laying on the table a Roll Call Vote for adjournment was made.
AYE: Aldermen Howard, Sebree, Herbener, Long, Skinner, Gibbons, Abbott, Horton,
and George. NAY: Aldermen Staley, Wright, Hurst, and Berry. (9 AYES and 4 NAYS) .
Motion carried. Canton City Council adjourned at 9:37 P. M.
