The regular meeting of the Canton Cit - Council met at 7:35 P.
Jul`,- 16, 1957 in the Council room - roll call witil wit' twelve members
of the Council )resent -- Alderman Lester Hill absent.
i',inutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Alr.errnan 'Turner gave a report on the street imT?rove:ment program
stating that 44.1; blocks had been core-oleted: -

The City Clerk read the Treasurer's re-)ort for June, 1957. Alderman
Lundry moved that the rer)ort be accented and placed on file, seconded
by Alderman Bend,,-r. Verbal vote: ATT:;: Unanimous. Carried.
Mayor Woods announced that Dewey I+illin-ham and James Woods had been
appointed Captains I.n the :Fire U'e;�artment and that arrail; e rients were
in the process of working out the fifty-six-hour week without any
additional help in that depart::ent.
Mayor Woods recom-mended t-:-tat a radio be placed in the Suner-i.ntendent
of Streets ' 'i'ruck. Alderman I.,undry moved that a radio be :placed in
the truck of the Sunerintendent of Streets, seconded by Alderman
3ender. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Bender, Roy Hill, Shelby
',,right, Turner, `�hn. '�Iright, 'f_i_n[C, Jones, Miller, Lundry, Swick, lilartin,
and Sebree. NA,' : 'None. Carried.
Second reading of the Tax Lev:,, Ordinance. Alderman 'Turner moved that
the Ordinance be placed on its passage, seconded b7_, Alderman Swick.
Roll call vote; AYE: Alderma:i1 Sebree, Martin, Swick, Lundi,y, Fliller,
Jones, Tink, 14m. ulritrht, Turner, Shelby Wright, Roy Hill and Bender.
NAY: None. Carried. This being Ordinance #344-
first reading of Ordinance on "Yielding Right of May". Alderman Jones
moved that this Ord'-nance be held over until the next meeting
p and in-
cororate the "Yield bight of Wayll recommendations of Second Avenue
and Vine Street and Second Avenue and Snruce Street in that Ordinance.
Seconded b, Alderman Martin. Verbal vote: AYE: Unanimous. Carried.
Alderman Bender read a req)zest from -the Junior Sportsman League to hold
a tag-dajT on July 21 or Aug. 3, 1957. PT-yor ods recorn fended that
the request be granted. Alterman Miller moved that the Junior Sportsman
League be permitted to hold' a tag-day o July 27, seconded b.4 Alderman
Bender. Verbal vote: Aj'.1": Unanimous. Carried.
Alderman Lundry gave a report on the storm sewer in the orth :vest
section of Canton, near the Wilbur Jarvis property -- that a floater
could be installed on the manhole cover b, the Jarvis Yielding Co. at an
expense of x`100.00. He recommended that the Cit,. Attorney4; make up a
release for Mr. Jarvis to sign stating that there would be no further
coil =1_a'nts. ^r,uziu.ry moved that the repair of the storm sewer

in the North ;Jest section of t'r:e City at an expense of .�,�00.00 be made
and that a release of any further com-faints signed by Wilbur Jarvis
be made, seconded by Alderman Turner. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman
Sender, Roy Hill, Shelby 71right, Turner, �Jm. °Jr� ; it, Tink, Jones,
i"liller, Lundny, Swick, liartin and Sebree. 14AY: None. Carried.
Alderman Roy Hill stated. that the contract for -nush.ing over garbage
at the Cite dump would soon expi.re and made a motion that the Council
advertise for bids for the contract of nushing over garbage at the
Cit,; dump, seconded by Alderman Shelby Wright. %'erba7. vote: AYE:
'`nanimous. Carried.
Alderman Lundry recommended that the City Attorney, Mr. Lawrence 1,1c,unn
write to the Pittsburg Tani: and Tower Co. requesting that their annual
ins?,ection be made.
Alderman Jones made a motion that the Council be adjourned, seconded
by Alderl,ian ' ink. Verbal vote: AYE: Unanimous. Carried.
Canton City Council adjourned at 8:25 H. M.
