Feb. 5, 1957
A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of
7:00 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alder-
man Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, burner, Staley, Cook and Hill.
Absent: Alderman Skinner.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood aonroved as read.
Petition by the Fire Department for raise in salary, was on motion of Alderman
Hill, seconded by Alderman undry, referred tp the Finance Committee, by a viva voce
vote.

The following monthly reports were submitted and ordered placed on file, on Motion of
Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman i'undry: Chief of Police; Street Supt. Bldg. �;omm.;
Plumbing Inspector; Sewqge Treatment plant; water treatment plant; water 4 sewer dept.
Request of the Federal. Government, Corps of Engineers, requesting to lease South
Park on a 99 year lease, for the construction of an Army Reserve Training Center, was
on motion of Alderman Hill, seconded by Alderman `turner, referred to the Legal & Police,
and Buildings & Grounds Committee, City Engineer, City Attorney and Mayor.
Resolution for the installation of 38 overhead street lamps, was oh motion of
Alderman Sebree, seconded by Alderman 'ink, adopted by the following roll call vote:
AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, `turner, Staley,
Cook and Hill. NAY: None. The chair declared the resolution adopted.
Resolution that the sum of 510,000.00 be transferred from the Sales Tax Fund to
? the Road & Bridge Fund, was on motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Hill,
adopted, by the following vote:: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller.,
Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None. The chair declared the
motion carried and resolution adopted.

i Resolution "Police Department personnel" was read, and adopted on motion of
Alderman Hill, seconded by Alderman Coleman, by the following vote: AYE: Alderman
Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill.
NAY: None.
Ordinance "Street Supt.-Salary" was read the first time. It was moved by
Alderman Hill, seconded by Alderman Coleman to suspend the rules. Roll call vote:
AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, 'link, Coleman, Turner, Cook and Hill.
NAY: Alderman Miller and Staley. It was then moved by Alderman Coleman, seconded by
Alderman Turner, to pla ee the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman
Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Tink, Coleman, `turner, Cook and Hill. NAY: Alderman
Miller and Staley. The chair declared Lhe motion carried and Ordinance passed, being
Ordinance No-316.
Ordihance "Stop-signs 5th & Birch and 7th & Birch" w„s read the first time. It j
was moved by Alderman Hill, seconded by Alderman Cook, to suspend the rules. Moll call
vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, "Tiller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley,
Cook and hill. It was then moved by Alderman Hill, seconded by Alderman Smith to place
the ordinance an its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Smith,
Swick, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, gook and dill. NAY: None. The chair
declared the motion carried and Ordinance nassed, being Ordinance No-317.
Ordinance "Boundaries of the City of Canton" was re,-d the first time. It was
moved by Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman book to suspend the rules. 'toll call

Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: none. , It was then moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by

Ordinance "Census Taking-;W. Locust St." was read the first time. It was moved by
_Alderman sundry, seconded by Alderman Smith to suspend the rules, and the motion carried
by the following vote- AYE: Alderman Sebree, 'Lundry, Swick, smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman,;
Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None." It was then moved by Alderman Swick, seconded'
by Alderman Smith, to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman`
Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill.
NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance
No. 319.
Ordinance "Census `taking-VanDyke Park Sub lJivision-N. Main St." was read the first
time. It was moved by Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman '`filler to suspend the rules
and the motion carried by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick,
Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and bill. NAY: kid none. -"It Vis
then moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Miller, to place the Ordinance on
its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tihk,

Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 320.

Ordinance "Census-taking--E. Chestnut St. Limits" was read the first time. It was
moved by Alderman 'filler, seconded by Alderman Smith, to suspend the rules. Roll call
vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley,
Cook and Hill. NAY: None. - It was then moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by 'Alderman
Miller to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll Call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree,
Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None.
The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 322.
The mayor names as census takers the following: S. Main & Hickory, Florence Picton;
N. Main St.T Theo. Bennett; W. Locust St., Charles Tometich, E. Chestnut-Chas, Boetto.
Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Coleman, to confirm the appointment, and the
motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
A lease between the City of Canton and Troop Number 101 Boy Scouts was read. It
was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman rink, the &ayor and Olerk be author-
ized to enter into and sign the lease. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry,
Swick, Smith, miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None.
Alderman Cook moves, seconded by Alderman Coleman, to accept bid of Swartzbaugh &
Nelson, on a truck chassis and packer garbage refuse body,CitraCcost
to enter plus
$49.00 for mud & snow tires, and authorized the Mayor and 3 Swick Smith Miller,
contract for same. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lund he chair,de Smith., the
Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook and ill. NAY: Alderman Staley.

Alderman Hill moves, seconded by Alderman Cook, that an Ordinance be drafted
setting salary of Chief operator at Sewage plant at $5200.00 per year and the Chief
of Police and Fire Chief at $5200.00 Der year.
Alderman Staley moves to amendIthe Motion and draft an Ordinance raising the
salary of the City Mngr., Plumbing nsnector, Chief operator at the water plant,
Fire department members; Meter readers, operators at thesater and sewer plants,
and water cashiers: The motion was seconded by Alderman "Miller, and roll call vote
showed the following vote: AYE: Alderman Swick, Smith and Staley. NAY: Alderman
Sebree, Lundry, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook and Hill. The chair declared
the motion lost. Vote on the original motion: AYE: Alderman Lundry, Turner, Coop:
and Hill. NAY; Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, and Staley.
The chair declared the motion lost.
On motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Hill, the meeting adjourned.
