HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-04-1956 Council Meeting Minutes i Canton, Illinois Dec. 4, 1956 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day conveing at the hour of 7:OOP.M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. Absent: Alder- man Skinner and Tink. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. Aoll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, undry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None. The Mayor names Alderman Hill, as an alternate to serve in the absence of the Aayor on the Citizens Advisory Uommittee. The Mayor names to a Committee to promote Canton as an "All American City, the names of Dave Watters, Chairman, Verne Myer and Finis Turner. It wasmoved by Alder- man Coleman, seconded by Alderman -Smith to confirm the appointment and the motion carried. Alderman Staley reported that the Pittsburg Tank Co., had made settlement for damages to the water tower, and moved that the City Attorney dismiss the case in Court, and the I"Tayor and Clerk be authorized to sue[ sign release to the Pittsburg Tank Co. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, -Smith, Miller, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None. Alderman Lundry moves, seconded by Alderman Staley, the Chief of Police, be authorized to install radio in his private car, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Resolution appropriating the sum of $47,154.35 from the Motor Fuel Tax Fund for payment of bonds and intgrest obligations outstanding for street improvement, was on motion of Alderman -Smith, seconded by Alderman Uoleman, adopted by the following vote: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None. Ordinance entitled "Annexation Lot 19 North Park Plaza Addition" was read the first time. It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Lundry, to suspend Swick ''mith Miller Cole- the rules. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, j'undry, , , , Cole- man, Turner, Staley, Cook and xill. NAY: None." It was moved by Alderman '`mith, seconded by Alderman Staley, to place the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swick, 'smith, Miller,- Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No-302. Brdinance "No Parking-5th Ave. & Linn St." was read the first time. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Smith, to suspend the rules requiring the second reading. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, 1'undry, Swick, -Smith, biller, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None.' It was then moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman 6mith, to place the ordinance on its passage. Rollcall vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, "undryl Swick, Smith, iiiller, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook and Hill. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried and ordinance passed, being Ordinance No.303. Ordinance "Parking Meter-days" was read the secondtime. It was moved by Alder- man Smith, seconded by Alderman Staley, to place the Ordinance on its passage as amended. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Lundry, Swi.ck, -Imiths Miller, U oleman, Turner, Staley, Wook and Hill. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried, and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance N o.3%. Ordinance "Salary-City Officials" was read the second time. It was moved by Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman Smith, to refer back to committee, and the motion carried by the following roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Lebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, i'liller, Coleman, Turner, Cook and Hill. NAY: Alderman Staley. Ordinance "Vacating Street-Ave. E from Chestnut to Edgwwood Place" was read the first time. Alderman Miller moves, seconded by Alderman Smith, an Ordinance be drafted placing yield-right-of-way signs at 6hh and Myrtle, Baxter and Dean Court and Myrtle, Ave. C at Spruce, Elm and Pine and Main at Chestnut St, and the motion carried.
