July 17, 1956
A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of
7`30 r. M. with Mayor goods presiding. Roll call showed the following present:
Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings
and Hill. Absent: Alderman Duncan, Lundry and Skinner.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read.

Alderman Smith, chairman of the Finance Committee, recommended the City share
expenses for trips necessary by the Mayor in connection with the Food Distribution
program, and bill the Local Unions later for their part of the expenses incurred.
It was moved by Alderman Jennings, seconded by Alderman Hill, to accept this recom-
mendation of the Finance committee, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. !
It was moved by Alderman Swick, seconded by Alderman Miller, to accept bid of
Ercell Brush for paint necessary to paint exterior and interior of City building and
bid of L. U. Baylor as Contractor to do the painting. Roll call vote: hYE: Alderman
Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings and °ill.
Alderman Staley moves, seconded by Alderman Turner, to have Ghlee Watson furnish
gravel at a cost of apnroximately $200.00, on the road going toward the Beach at the
Lake, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Ordinance "Tax Levy Ordinance 1956-1957" was read the second time. It was moved
by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Miller to place the ordinance on its passage.
Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, 'Turner,
Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None. AYE: 11; NAY-0. The chair declared the
motioncarried and �'rdinance passed, being Ordinance Ao.285.
Ordinance "Bash Chestnut St.-1 way street" was read the first time. -Lt was moved
by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Uoleman to suspend the rules. Roll call
vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley,
Cook, Jermings and Hill. NAY: None. It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by
Alderman Coleman to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman
Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill.
NAY: None. AYE-11; NAY-0. The chair declared the motioncarried and Ordinance passed
being Vrdinance No. 286.
Request of the Junior Sportsman League to hold tag day on July 21, was on motion
of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Coleman granted.
Alderman Tink moves, seconded by Alderman Hill, that Junior Carmack be granted
previledge of breaking the curb at Main & Myrtle Street east, and to build a 30"
sidewalk, with no parking priviledges nor time limit, to be built at his own expense.
Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner,
Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None.
Alderman Hill moves, seconded by Alderman Cook, curbs at Pine and -Martin Ave.,
Pine and Ave. A; and Maple and Ave. B, be cut back, and the motion carried b-,; the
following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Swick, Smith, Miller, Tink, Coleman, Turner,
Staley, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: None.
On motion of Klderman Staley, seconded by Alderman "filler, the City Attorney
was instructed to contact kir. Wheeler in E1Van Addition, requesting something be
done to eleviate the stagnant water condition on his property.
Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Cook, to adjourn this meeting to
j July 24th, at 7:30 P. M., and the motion carried.
