A regular meeting of the City Cogmil held this day convening at the hour of
7:00 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present:
Alderman Duncan, Sebree0 Landry, Swick, Smith, Skinner, T ink, Coleman, Turner, Cook,
Jennings and Hill. Absent: Alderman Miller and Staley.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read.

The following monthly reports were submitted and on mxfte motion of Alderman
Smith, seconded by Alderman Luncry were accepted and ordered placed on file: Chief
of Police, Supt. of Streets; Bldg. Gomm; City bngr; Plumbing Inspector; Water Plant;
Sewage plant; Water " newer Dept.
Request of Free
Methodist Church to hold tag day on Oct. 22, was on motion of
Alderman kook, seconded by Alderman Smith, granted.
On motion of Alderman Jennings, seconded by Alderman Hill, the Aayor and "lerk
were authorized to enter into contract with L. J. Poggioli to push-over the dump for
a year, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Communication from the State S nitaryy Water Board, granting City permit to install
sewer extensions in the forth end of the �'ity, Va on motion of Alderman Smith, secon-
ded by Alderman Jennings accepted and ordered filed.
Resignation of Al. Kifflard and Gertrude Rifflard at custodianq of the Public
Lounge was acce^ted, and the Mayor s ubmzts for approval o the count 1, the names

of Howard and Ge�rt34 a due as custodians.
Alderman Miller comes in.

On motion of Alderman Duncan, seconded by Alderman Smith, the appointments were
accepted by unanimous roll call vote.
Ordinance "Speed Restrictions" was read the second time. It was moved by Alder-
, man Smith, seconded by Alderman Duncan, to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll
call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink,
Coleman, Turner, Cook, Jennings and Kill. NAY: none. The chair declared the motion
carried and "rdinance *- ssed, being Ordinance No. 250.
Ordinance "Annedation of territory at High School addition" was read the first time.
Ordinance "Municipal Retailers Occupation Tax" was read the first time. It was
moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Cook, to suspend the rules requiring the
second reading of the "rdinance. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Lundry,
Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY:None.
It was then moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Coleman, to place the Ordinance
on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith,
Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: none. The chair
declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 251.
w Resolution directing the Treasurer to set aside the sum of $300000.00 each year
from the Municipal netailars Occupation Tax for the pas meet of the City's share of
Public Improvement Bonds, was on motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by alderman Coleman
adopted by roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan, Sebree, 'andry, Swick, smith, Miller,
Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook, Jennings and Hill. NAY: none. The chair de-
clared the motion carried and Resplution adopted.
Ordinance "Repealing Ordinance No.187,-vehicle Tax" was read the first time. It
was moved by Alderman Jennings, seconded by Alderman Smith, to suspend the rules re-
quiring the second reading of the Ordinance. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Duncan
Sebree, Lundry, Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, T ibk, Ooleman, Turner Cook, Jennings
and Hill. It was then moved by Alderman Cook, seconded by Alderman 6mith, to place
the Ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Luncan, Sebree, 1'undry,
Swick, Smith, Miller, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Turner, Cook, Jennings and "ill. NAY:None.
The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 252.
It was moved by Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Duncan, the Clerk notify the
Printing Uo. to cancel order for Vehicle Tax stickers for 1956s and the motion carried
by unanimous roll call vote.
Resolution designating the following streets as Arterial Streets was submitted:
Sixth Ave. from Ash to Birch St; Howard Place, from second Avenue to Third Avenue; j
Vanlyke Drive from Rte. 78 to W. City Limits. It was moved by Alderman Lundry, seconded
by Alderman Smith to adopt the resolution and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vot
Resolution for improvement under Motor ftel Tax Law of the following streets was
submitted:

It was moved by Alderman Lundry, seconded by Alderman Coleman to adopt the resolu-
tions and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
On motion of Alderman Smith, seconded by Alderman Swick, the meeting adjourned.
