HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-03-1954 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois Aug. 3, 1954 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley and Klobuchar. Absent: Alderman Duncan and Lurdry. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood arproved as read. Request of Archie Turl for use of Jones park on Aug. 25th, for a Mark Peterman address, was on motion of Alderman Sebree, seconded by, Alderman Tink, granted. Request of S & L Coal Co, to have rights to prospect or coal o Canton Cit Dumpgihound, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alder man Mi. ler, referrtd to the Buildings and Grounds committee, Mayor and City Attorney to report back. 1 r Request of Gene Casey, Recreation Director Canton P.rk District, requested use of Jones Park for a i"usical on August 10th from 7:00 to 9:OOP.M., was on motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Cook, granted. r It was moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Smith, the Mayor, City Clerk, City Attorney, Treasurer and whatever Alderman may so desire, to attend the convention of the Illinois r1unicipal League, and the motion carried by a viva voce vot� f Alderman Klobuchar moved, seconded by Alderman Cook, that the question to indroduce Fluoride i.n the City's Water System, be placed on the ballot at the next City election in February. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Skinner, Tink, Cook and Klobuchar. NAY: Alderman Miller, Smith, Linder, Coleman and Staley. The chair declared the motion carried. It was rroved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Moore, Ordinance entitled "Alderman Salary" , be passed. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Moore, Miller, Smith, Linder, Coleman, Staley and Klobuchar. NAY: Alderman Sebree, Skinner, Tink and Cook. The I4a}nor voting AYE, to cast the deciding vote. The chair declared the motion carried and Ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 218. The Junior League All-Star Baseball, were granted a Tag-Day on Aug. 13 and 14, on motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Klobuchar. On motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Klobuchar, the local theatres were denied permission to use advertising signs on cross-walks on the square by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Linder, Coleman, Cook and nlobuchar. NAY: Alderman Miller, Smith, Skinner, Tink and Staley. The chair declared the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Sebree, seconded by Alderman Moore, the Boiicd of Local Improvements request the W. L. Miller Co. to donate Black-top for the brick sidewalks in Jones Park, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Alderman Miller moves, seconded by Alderman Smith, an Ordinance be drafted eliminating angle parking on the S. side of W. Elm street from Main to Ave. A. and to convert same to parallel parking, the motion carried by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Moore, Miller, Smith, Linder, Tink,, Coleman, Cook, Staley and Klobuchar.
