Canton, Illinois
June 1, 1954.
A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of
7:00 k. M. With Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present:
Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tihk, Coleman, Cook,
Staley and Klobuchar. Absent: Alderman Moore and Lundry.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read.
The following claims were presented and on motion of Alderman Linder, seconded
by Alderman Duncan, ordered paid when funds are available:

The following officers monthly reports were submitted and on motion of Alderman
Smith, seconded by Alderman Duncan, approved and ordered filed: Chief of kolice;Bldg.
Comm; City Enge;St. Lupt; Plumbing Inspector; Water & Sewer Dept; Water treatment
plant and sewer treatment plant; treas. of fire dent.
Communication from Canton Park District, r ertuesting use of Jones Park and E. Side
of the Square for public Square Dance, on July 17th, was on motion of Alderman Klobuchar
seconded by Alderman Gook, granted by a viva voce vote.

Communication from State Sanitary Water Board, urging the necessary repairs at the
Sewage plant be completed in the near future, was on motion of Alderman Duncan,
seconded by Alderman Smith, referred to the Water& Swwer committee to check.
A copy of the Verdict in the inquest of death of Micheal Cooper at Lake
Canton, was submitted by Coroner Raymond Mercey,recommending "NO Swimming" signs
be posted by those responsible for posting such signs, be posted sufficiently.
It was moved by Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alderman Cook, to accept the
report and place on file, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote.
Agreement for Maintenance of City Streets with the State Highway Dept.
for the year, was submitted. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by
Alderman Skinner, the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to enter into this agree-
ment and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
The "Annual Appropriation Ordinance" was read for the first time.
An Ordinance "Regulating Traffic" was read for the first time.
The following bonds were accepted and ordered filed: Franceille Larson,
Don Whitmore, L. McMunn; Julian Coultas; Mildred Gray, Harold Lyons.
The Mayor names Ruth Hill as census taker for the nexly annexed territory.
It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Duncan, to confirm the
appointment and the motion carried by unanimous viva voce vote.
It was moved by Alderman Duncan, seconded by Alderman Sebree, the Mayor
and City Attorney contact the C. I. P. S. Co., relative to having tree branches
cut away from street light obstruction, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote.
Alderman Duncan moves, seconded by Alderman Linder, the Street Supt. be
instructed to repair T.P.& W. crossing on E. Maple Street between 2nd and 3rd
Avenue and bill the I.H.Co. for same. The motion carried by a viva voce vote.
It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Linder, that upon
receipt of a guarantee from other civic organizations and group6, that they
will do their share in financing the prppoped Planning and Zoning nroject,
that the City will go thru with the project, and the Mayor and Clerk to be
given this authorization. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan,
Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, and Klobuchar.
NAY: None.
On motion of Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman lobuchar, the meeting
adjourned.
