HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-04-1954 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Ill. mw; 4, 1954 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7.30 I'. M. with Mayor woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tibk, Coleman, Cook, Staley. Absent: Alderman Klobuchar and Puskarich. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. Petition regiest-ing tie call of a special election to fill vacancy in the office of Al<7erman, in the 7th ward, due to removal of Alderman Puskarich, was let lay over until the next meeting to check on same by the City attorney. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman Staley, an extra fireman be added to the fire department, during vacation time, and the motion carried by unanimous roll call vote. Water Dept. S.- - - - - - - - 22.76 Pacific Flush Tank- - - - -137.00 Streator Tile Co-- - - - - 595.74 e Wilkins Pipe & Supply- - - 106.90 11 Alderman Coleman moves, seconded by Alderman Smith, to accept low bid on Aliphalt and Seal Coat Aggregate, and that the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to enter into contract with the low bidder, and the motion carried by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, kioore3 Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook and Staley. NAY: Alderman Lundry and Miller. The chair declared the motion carried. Request of Kiwanis Club for permission to use Jones Park on June 5th3 or in case of rain on June 12th, to hold an Ice-Cream Social, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Duncan, granted, if this date does not conflict with any previous engaged date. Communication from L. nalph Stevens, thanking the Mayor and Council for their co-operation during his term as Police & Z ire Commissioner was on motion of Alder- man Moore, seconded by Alderman Duncan, accepted and ordered filed. Ordinance entitled "Census Taker for annexed Territory" was read for the first time. It was moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Sebree, to insert the compendation of said census taker into the Ordinance, of. $10.00, and the motion carried unanimously by roll call vote. Alderman Smith moves, seconded by Alderman Sebree, the Street Light Committee have a street light installed at Wallace Park entrance on Ave. D., and the motion carried. Guy Williams requests permission to erect pop-corn stand on Elm street and corner of square at ,.ing Drug Co. Alderman Moore moves, seconded by Alderman Smith, to refer the matter to the Street & Alley committee and Legal & Police committee to investigate and report back at the next meeting.
