HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-19-1954 Council Meeting Minutes i 97 Canton, Illinois January 19, 1954 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day vonvening at the hour of 7:00 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alder- man Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. Absent: None. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read. Petition of residents on S. Sixth Ave. from Linn south to the Limits, requesting the city engineer for grade on same, was on motion of Alderman Skinner, seconded by Alderman Tink, referred to the proper committee with p-)wer to act by a viva voce vote. Communication from Crawforo, !Murphy and Tilly, regarding changes and additions to the sewage treatment plant, in connection with the sludge distetion tank and venti- lation, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by -lderman Sebree, accepted and ordered filed. Ordinance entitled "repair of leaks in water lines on properties' was read for the first time. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Aldennnan Skinner, to saspend the rules requiring the ordinance be read the second time. Roll call vote: AY'': "lderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, r Coleman, Cook, Staley, nlobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: None. The chair declared the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Skinner, seconded by Alderman Miller, to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, `rink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Ilobuchar and Puskarich. dUY! None. The chair declared the motion carried and ordinance passed, being Ordinance No. 194. The Mayor names a committee on Planni-ng and Zoning, appointing Alderman Smith, Linder, Coleman, Moore and Staley, to meet to determing what action should be taken on planning and zoning, and report to the council. The Mayor advises the Council of the anpointment by the Commission of Raymond Ball, as temporary Sergeant, to the Police department, and Mat Bohler as police patrol- man. Bond of Matthew Bohler as police patrolman, and Kenneth Lindzey as Chief of Police, and Stephen Eades as Treasurer of the Cemetery Board, were on motion of Alder- man Skinner, seconded by Alderman Coleman, accepted and ordered filed. Alderman Linder move-, seconded by Alderman Staley, an Ordinance be drafter, plac- ing one-half of the 2% Fire Insurance Fund into the General Fund, insofar, as it will comply with the State Law, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote. Representatives of Local 157 and Local 233 FE-UE addressed the Council, requesting the council adopt resolution urging their senators, representatives and 6 overnor, to take steps to alleviate the suf'f'ering of the unemployed, thru a surplus-foods plan and to double the unemployment compensation. It was moved by Alderman Skinner, seconded by Alderman Cook, the council go on record as following up this request, and the motion carried by unanimous vote.
