Sept. 15, 1953
A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of
7:30 P. M. with Mayor Woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present:
Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, 'iindry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Coleman,
Cook, Staley, Klobuchar, Puskarich. ABSENT: Alderman Tink.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood apprved as read.
Request of the Kiwanis Club for permission to sell peanuts on the streets on
bept. 17,18919 and 26th, was on motion of Alderman Coleman, seconded by Alderman Cook
granted.
Request of the Disabled American Veterans Orginization to hold "for-get-mad-not"
day on October 3rd, was on motion of Alderman Moores seconded by Alderman Duncan,
granted by a viva voce vote.
Ordinance setting increase in salaries of city officers on July 15, 1953, was
read. It was moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman 'Staley, to suspend the
rules. The motion carried by the following vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan,
Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and
Puskarich. NAY: none. The chair declared the motion carried.
It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Smith, to place the
ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore,
Lundry, Hiller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and `uskarich.
NAY: None. The chair declared the motion c arried and the ordinance passed, being
Ordinance No. 186.
An ordinance entitled "An Ordinance Taxing Persons in the Business of Selling
Cigarettes at Retail" was read for the first time.
An ordinance entitled "Ordinance establishing Wheel Tax" was read for the
first time.
It was moved by Alderman Cook, seconded by Alderman Sebree, a new motor be
installed in the Fire truck, on bid submitted by Swartzbaugh & Nelson, totaling
0616.71. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller,
Smith, Linder, Skinner, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar, ruskarich. NAY: None.
On motion of Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alderman Cook, the clerk was
instructed to mark the absent Alderman present, by roll call vote.
Mr. Crawford of Crawford, Murphy and Tilly, explained to the Council their
recent request for a change order covering the additional electrical work for furnish-
ing 2400 volt service to the ester treatment plant at a cost of $2174.00, plus a
cost amounting to $791.91 for the C. I. P. S. Co., and $1350.00 for transformers
from the Spoon River Electricl Co. It was moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by
Alderman Puskarich, to accept the recommendation of the engineer and approve bhe
change order, totaling $4315.91. The motion carried ty unanimous roll call vote.
It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman Skinner, that a night-
watchman be appointed on the third shift at the Sewer plant at a salary of $1600.00
per year, for a try-out period of 90 days. Koll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree,
Duncan, Moore, '"undry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Coleman, Staley, Klobuchar,
and Puskarich. N:.Y: Alderman Cook. the chair declared the motion carried.
On motion of Alderman hoore, seconded by Alderman "lobuchar, the meeting then
adjourned.
