Canton, Illinois
May 19, 1953
A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30
P. M. with Mayor woods presiding. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman
Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Gook,
Staley, Klobuchar, and Puskarich. Absent: None.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood approved as read.
Request of rloyd Hammond, for 2 weeks vacation pay, was on motion of Alderman
Vloore, seconded by Alderman Sebree, granted by the following roll call vote; aye;
Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink,
Goleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: none.
Communication from the State Sanitary water Board relative to needed repairs and
replacements at the Sewage Plant, was on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman
"uncan, accepted, with the recommendation that the committee investigate and report
�^J their accomplishments to the council from time to time.
It was moved by Alderman Puskarich, seconded by Alderman Staley, that an Ordinance
be drafter, granting all employees with fifteen years service, three-week vacation pay.
poll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Foundry, Smith, Linder, Skinner, `rink,
Coleman, Cook, Staley, Elobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: Alderman Moore and Miller. The
chair declared the motion carried.
Ordinance entitled "Compensation for Election judges and clerks" was read for
the second time. It was moved by Alderman Klobuchar, seconded by Alderman Puskarich,
to place the ordinance on its passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan,
Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder, Skinner, Tink, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar
and Puskarich. NAY: none. The chair declared the motion carried and ordinance passed,
being 'Jrdinance No. 176.
Ordinance entitled "Salary-City Attorney" was read for the second time. It was
moved by Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Coleman to place the ordinance on its
passage. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Smith, Linder, Skinner, Coleman, Staley and
Puskarich. NAY: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Piiller, Tink, Cook and
Klobuchar. The chair declared the motion lost.
The Mayor submits the name of lom Heller for Dog-catcher. It wasmoved by Alderman
Moore, seconded by Alderman Duncan to confirm the appointment and the motion carried by
unanimous roll call vote.
The following bonds were pres nted: L. B. McMun, %ity Atty; Julian Coultas, Fire Chf;
Mildred Gray, sec. to May or; Tom Hiller, dog-cather; Henry ricton, police; Morris
Henderson, police; rtichard Smith, police; Cecil i ortman, police; Joan Taylor, Plumbing
Inspector; Harold Lyons, st. Outp; Howard Gibbons, Eggineer; Leo Mahr, Treas. of fire
Dept; Herman Walker and Leon Otto, aux. police; Stephen Eades, Treas. Cemetery Board;
On motion of Alderman Duncan, seconded by Alderman Miller, the bonds were approved and
accepted.
It was moved by Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Klobuchar, the clerk be
instructed to open bids on water meters advertised for opening on this date, and the
motion carried by a viva voce vote.
The following bids on water meters were submitted: on 200 water meters:

It was moved by Alderman nlobuchar, seconded by Alderman iviiller, the Water a Sewer
committee consult with the plumbing inspector and city engineer, which meter is most
servicable and report back, and the motion carried by a viva voce vote.

On motion of Alderman Staley, seconded by Alderman Puskarich, the clerk was
authorized to -pen bids received for this date on waterworks improvements and the
motion carried by a vivs, voce vote.

On motion of Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderman nlobuchar, the meeting
adjourned, to Friday, May 22nd, 1.953 to re-convene at 7:30 P. M. by the following
roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Sebree, Duncan, Moore, Lundry, Miller, Smith, Linder,
Skinner, `i'ihk, Coleman, Cook, Staley, Klobuchar and Puskarich. NAY: None.
The chair declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned until 1,'riday, May
22nd, at 7:30 P. M.
