HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-02-1952 Council Meeting Minutes Canton, Illinois July 2, 1952 A regular meeting of the City Council held this day convening at the hour of 7:30 P. M. with Mayor Woods -residing. Roll call showed the following present: Alderman Sebree, Blackaby, Moore, Jones, Skinner, Linder, Hand, Tink, mss'-Cook, and St. Clair. Absent: Alderman Ternening and Klobuchar. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and stood anprpved as read. Petition of Albert Painter as owner of a majority of all lots on a street East of 11th Avenue ant running north and south, requested the street be named Orchid Court. On motion ofAlderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Sebree, the petition was granted and resolution naming the Street Orchid Court, adopted., by a unanimous roll call vote. Petition of Albert Painter, Merle Gess and Sheldon Orwig, as the majority owners of all the lots situated on the first street east of the intersection of Eleventh Avenue, running north and south, requesting the street be named Iris Court , was on motion of Alderman St. Clair, seconded by Alderman Blacka.by, granted, and resolution na msing the street Iris Court, adopted by a unanimous roll call vote. K.1d were allowed and ordered paid when funds are available. w The following monthly reports of officers were presented: Chief of Police; ater treatment plant; Water & Sewpr Dent; City Treasurer; Supt. of Streets; Bldg. Comm; City Engr; Treas. of Fire Dept; Sewage Treatment plant. on motion of Alderman Moore, seconded by Alderman Kand, all reports were accented. and placed on file. Mr. Crawford of Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, consultant engineers at the waterworks, recommended that the city withhold $50.00 per day from Oaks & Sons on the payment of their claim submitted,whi^h would amount to $400.00 from the scheduled com-oletion date of the work of June 12ththrougi the 20th day of June, as liquidation damages, also suggesting if no greater progress is shown by the next meeting of the Council, that a conference be held between the City Officials, contractor and engineers, to try to get together on something satisfactory, also that the Bond Co. be advised that the liquidation date is passed and satisfactory progress is not being made by the contractor. It was moved by Alderman Linder, seconded by Alderma, n Sebree, to accept the recommenda- tion of Mr. Crawford, and the motion carried unanimously by roll call vote. t 29 First reading of Ordinance entitled „Police Pension Fund." First reading of Ordinance entitled "Annual Appropriation Bill. ." It was moved by Alderman Skinner, seconded by Alderman Cook, the epprorpriation for upkeep of alleys be set at $3500.00 to be used from the Garbage Rand. Roll call vote: AYE: Alderman Jones, Skinner, Tink, Cook and St.Clair. NAT: Alderman Sebree, ?3lackary, Moore, Linder, Hand. Being a tie vote, the Mayor voted NAT. and declared the motion lost. It was moved by Alderman Jones, seconded by Alderman Moore, to open bids advt. for a police car for this date. The following proposals submitted: -,r P,. Bader Chevrolet Co.--------Difference of $85P.30 Locks Motor- - - - - - - - Differnee of $500.00 It was moved by Alderman Jones to reject all bids, and readvertise for new bids, to be received on July 15th, and the motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Hand, seconded by Alderman Moore, that bids advertised for this date, for improvements to the Water Works, be opened, and the motion carried. Co. , Decatur, I11. - - - - - - - -$142,252.00 It wa.s moved by Alderman Hand, seconded by Alderman Moore to reject all bids and return to the bidders their bid bond, and the motion carried unanimously by roll call. It was moved by Alderman tones, seconded by Alderman Moore the Clerk be authorized to re-advertise for bids for improvements to the Waterworks, bids to be received until 7:30 P. M. July 15th., and the motion carried unanimously, by roll call vote. On motion of Alderman Tink, seconded by Alderman Blackaby, the absent aldermen were ordered marked present, and the motion carried by roll call vote.
